Kids nowadays are always wanting to have the latest rapid fire mods and go to the limit to have their parents buy them a rapid fire chip.  Many parents view video games as a way to keep their kids out of the way and thus the modding xbox controller is the latest babysitter- a way for parents to get on with their jobs without worrying about their children. Are there any consequences of this mentality? The following are few of the pros and cons that we should all know:

Pros

* Social factor-video games are known to help kids open up and become more sociable than they were.

* Forget Pain- video games are loved by kids with serious illness or injuries. They help them redirect their minds on the game instead of the pain they’re feeling.

* Creativity Boost- majority of vid games involve a hind of creativity. Children are able to discover their creative selves.

* Cognetive skills Improved- almost all games have parts that require the player to solve some sort of problem and mostly some skill is involved. Kids learn to think and solve problems.

* Hightens Self Confidence-  all kids love to boast about their achievements in the latest game they’re playing. They will have higher self confidence in general if they discover they are good at something even if its at video games.

Cons

* Ruins the eyes- hours spent in front of screens are known to destroy ones’ vision. Getting your vision ruined at a young age will affect the childs entire life.

* Robs time- we all know that video games are really addictive and once kids are hooked, their schoolwork and other activities will be affected greatly. They’ll have a very empty childhood.

* No physical work involved- many kids who are hooked on games end up becoming obese. Kids with weight issues will be prone to teasing at school and are more likely to have health problems.

* It’s costly- video games aren’t very cheap and neither is the cost of electricity. Money that is hard to come up with and could have been used better.

* Violence- the games today aren’t innocent at all! Bloody violence is the main feature. According to experts, children who have been exposed to violent games have a higher chance to become violent themselves and perhaps even criminals.

* It’s wrong- letting video games do the baby-sitting is’t good at all. Many families lack needed communication because of these games.

Well, those are facts. Yes, they do have their advantages but it would be wise to think twice before letting your child have his way. We shouldn’t allow video games to take our place as parents.
